I finally got my VPN working by doing the following: Go to Network and sharing centre -> Change adapter settings. Right click on each connection and click on properties. Go to sharing tab and uncheck "Allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connect". This should work. So it is likely that the issue is something on the VPN headend. I would suggest having someone check the logs on the VPN head end immediately after you have attempted a connection and see if there are log messages that might identify what is causing your VPN to not establish its connection.
