PPTP or Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol is the outdated protocol by Microsoft and basically encapsulate PPP. PPTP is easy to setup and offers fastest speeds. As a result, it is ideal for streaming and gaming, but not for security because it provides weak encryption.

Jun 25, 2016 · As part of preparing for the release of macOS Sierra and iOS 10, Apple has publicly announced they’re moving from warning folks about PPTP to removing PPTP support altogether from Apple’s built-in VPN client. In place of PPTP, Apple is again recommending the use of other VPN communications protocols that are more secure.
This is a guide for setting up a manual PPTP VPN connection on your iOS device. Tap the ‘Settings’ icon. Tap 'General'. Scroll down and tap on 'VPN'. Tap ‘Add VPN Configuration’. Tap ‘PPTP’ at the top, then enter a description for your VPN connection you are setting up. Enter your OverPlay VPN Username & Password. Dec 26, 2014 · The PPTP that works is using a split tunnel. This new IPSec that I set up (not working) is configured with a full tunnel. The PPTP split tunne was working in both MAC OSX and iOS. I installed the beta for iOS 10 and PPTP is nolonger supported. I'm still running El Capitan on the Mac, but need a solution before I upgrade it this fall. Joe
